If the videos require Flash, you can copy the URL to Chrome and watch videos. Chrome has a built in flash player.
I have a laptop that I didn't upgrade, so I can use it. I was wondering if other people were having the same problem after updating.
Make sure any extensions you may have installed are compatible with Safari 10. YouTube is working for me in 10.11.6.
The only extension I have is "Click to Flash" which was working fine until I upgraded to Safari 10. I am also running OS10.11.6. Which was what was running prior to the Safari update. Have you upgraded to Safari 10?
Yes, I should have said I guess. Try uninstalling Click to Flash. You can always reinstall it if it doesn't help. Restart Safari after you uninstall it.
That did it. But I still liked the old Safari. It allowed you to download video files from whatever web sites you were using. This one doesn't allow it :-(
THANKS!
It did? I don't remember that. Is that what Click to Flash did?
Welcome.
I don't know that it was "Click to Flash" that enabled it, but instead of waiting for videos to play - buffer - play - buffer etc I would just right click on the video, click on 'download' and then after it was downloaded, watch it uninterrupted. I could do that to a number of videos and then do other things while they were downloading. Helped with multitasking. I have DSL but not the fastest DSL, so there's always a lot of buffering.
Belay my last! I just checked on another computer that still has Safari 9 point something on it and it's not Safari that changed, it's YouTube. Maybe it's because they now have an HTML5 player? Anyway, my concerns over Safari 10 were unfounded. Still miss being able to download the videos for playback later.
Same issue you reported here. I don't think ill ever be able to get used to auto play videos. It doesnt look like Marc Hoyois is working on ClickToFlash any longer. Maybe someone can pick up where he left off?
I had the same problem and can confirm the solution. It's probably a conflict with the ClickToFlash extension.
It isn't actually necessary to uninstall ClickToFlash. Simply disabling the extension allows YouTube videos to load in Safari 10. The conflict is probably happening because both ClickToFlash can replace Flash with HTML5 video, but Safari 10 now does that by default, so they are both trying to do the same thing.
Hi,
Went to Safari->Options and selected Extensions. The Media Center had an update available - and when clicking the update - it finally worked properly again.
I was having the same problem, so the pointer to check Safari extensions was helpful.
In my case, it was disabling 'ClickToPlugin' that did the trick.
